The high altitude region of Stelvio, Adamello and Ortler is home to Italy's largest national park, a vast oasis of wildlife in the middle of Europe. Its mountain ranges preserve spacious glaciers. Rapid mountain streams and waterfalls disturb the silence of its lower slopes where numerous lakes reflect the skyline dominated with white peaks.
Our Ortler trip lets you experience the snowy environment of the highest mountains in the Eastern Alps in combination abundant wildlife of isolated alpine valleys. You will hike through the Ortler group starting from the meadows of Ultental, pass on vast moraines and traverse some of the group’s highest passes.
This is the classic high-altitude hiking itinerary in the Ortler-Cevedale group. It takes you through a land of lakes and glaciers which is home to Italy’s largest national park and is one of the wildest areas in the Alps. You will walk off the crowded trails, reach hidden waterfalls, traverse glaciers and cross some of the group's highest ranges.
Enjoy the wilderness of the Stelvio National Park, step on a 100-meter-long suspension bridge over the Ragaiolo gorge, see the impressive Saent waterfalls and watch the original cheesemaking process at traditional alpine farms. This trip features solitary trails, a rich variety of landscapes and overnight stops at recently reconstructed farms equipped with the hotel-like facilities as well as at huts. And it is suitable for families with kids!

There is no other trip with such diversity of paths and sceneries than on our scenic highline trail. This trip starts on the glaciers of the Stelvio National Park and leads us to the Brenta Dolomites where we walk through the scenic central area and move towards Lake Garda to enjoy beautiful views over the lake from its steep ranges.
The cascade of Corvo lakes is among the most beautiful lake areas in Stelvio. Hiking to Corvo lakes is a pleasant day trek accessible by most hikers, altough with a significant elevation gain. We reach the lakes from the upper Rabbi valley in 3 hours, can have lunch in the nearby alpine hut and explore the lakes without a hurry.
This hike takes you to the Stelvio highland. It is home to snowy 4000-meter peaks, glaciers, lakes and streams. On this hike, you will see one of the major attractions in Stelvio - the cascade of Saent waterfalls, reach the highland just below the eastern range of Cevedale and stop for rest and lunch in Dorigoni mountain inn.
We rate our hiking trips depending on their difficulty from Level 1 to Level 4 with the Level 4 being the most difficult. Factors that influence the trip ratings include the itinerary profile, hiking schedule, daily cumulative elevation gain and loss, altitude, quality of trails. Level 1 - Light walks
Level 1 are our lightest walks. You should be comfortable walking 3 – 4 hours with up to 500 m elevation gain and a light backpack of 2 – 3 kg. Families with small children can join Level 1 hikes.
Level 2 - Easy hiking
You should be comfortable hiking 7 - 10 km or up to 5 hours a day on well-maintained trails with 300 to 700 m cumulative elevation gain. You will carry a 7 – 10 kg backpack in hut-to-hut Level 2 trips or a light backpack with day pack in village-based Level 2 hikes and day hikes.
Level 3 - Moderate hiking
You should be comfortable hiking 10 – 15 km or 6 to 7 hours on mostly well-maintained trails with up to 1000 m cumulative elevation gain. You will carry a 7 – 10 kg backpack in hut-to-hut Level 3 trips or a light backpack with only day pack in village-based Level 3 hikes and day hikes.
Level 4 - Challenging treks
Level 4 trips are hut-to-hut itineraries for fit and experienced hikers. You should be prepared for long day crossings between huts, continuous and steep ascents of around 1000 m, rugged trails or lightly maintained trails.
