Home/Rhaetian Alps Hiking Tours/Lakes of Cevedale
Ortler-Cevedale is a wild solitary mountain region with the summits reaching almost 4,000 m and numerous lakes. We will invade this virgin land to admire its beauty and diverse fauna including curious marmots, nimble chamois and roe deers.
This hike offers a great diversity of landscapes ranging from green alpine meadows to silent rocky highlands and from inaccessible glaciers to beautiful lakes in the natural kettles. You will observe the high peaks of Vioz, Palon della Mare and Cevedale with vast glaciers on their slopes.
Travelers like this hike specifically for the astonishing views of the lakes. You will see the emerald green waters of the Marmotta lake, a great panorama with lake Lungo and the artificial lake Careser (2603 m) which receives its water from the huge Careser glacier runoff. We will walk along the 57 meter high Careser dam close to its service constructions and see how it works.
We’ll stop in the mountain inn Rifugio Larcher situated opposite the Cevedale glacier. This historical hut was built in 1882 and initially had just two tiny bedrooms which hosted first alpinists.
This is a relatively light hike, although you need to be in a good shape. The guide can adapt the itinerary according to you preferences and make it lighter or harder.
