The Dolomites are one of the most fascinating geological architectures in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Dolomites impress hikers with their beauty and power. Vertical cliffs of dolostone, sublime and colorful landscapes and breathtaking views have for long attracted hikers. Most hikers choose self guided hiking tours to explore the Dolomites, although

In a self guided tour, you travel and hike in total freedom and at your own pace, without guides or groups, on routes designed regularly inspected by the MONT Trekking guides and experts. Your tour is in your hands, and you can choose your own company to explore the Dolomites. We offer self guided tours of varying length and difficulty to meet expectations of virtually all hikers, from families travelling with children to groups of friends. Solo hikers are quite common in the Dolomites as well, and they prioritize self guided hikes to feel the solitude and be totally immersed in nature.

Hiking in the Dolomites without a guide is indeed easy for those who already have trekking experience in the mountains. Our self guided itineraries follow marked and well-maintained trails. Directions signs are found at all crossings and intersections. They are identified by color-codes: they are red and white in the Dolomites with or without the trail number. Their frequency depends on the characteristic of the terrain. Normally, more markers are used at low altitude where the landscape is characterized by alpine pastures and above 2500-2700 meters because the may be no trodden trail in rocky terrains. Lower density of markers is typical for trails in forests where there is just one trodden and well-visible trail. Our Dolomites self guided hiking tours bypass via ferrata, glaciers and any paths which require technical experience, but the itineraries can be tailored based on your preferences.

MONT Trekking provides self guided hikers in the Dolomites with specialized 1:25000 hiking maps and electronic maps for Android or Apple devices. They are easy to read and contain all information useful for a self guided tour such as trails with numbers, crossings, huts, altitude marks and relevant topographic landmarks. The electronic maps come with a satellite navigation feature thus letting you see your position on the trail at any moment.

Itineraries for self guided tours are defined in advance by local MONT Trekking experts, and nothing is left to the chance. Self-guided hikers are provided with a step-by-step hiking schedule for each day of the trek. The schedule contains detailed description of the trek, trail numbers, altitude profile and other useful information. It highlights the points of interest to make your trek more enjoyable, thus you won’t miss any fact about the Dolomites. Hiking schedule and maps let you enjoy your hike without worrying about route and navigation.

To turn your Self Guided Trek into an unforgettable experience, MONT Trekking takes care of all details. Most typically, accommodation during the trek is in mountain huts. Accommodation is arranged by MONT Trekking in advance and included in the cost of your self guided tour. Many mountain huts in the Dolomites were reconstructed in the recent years. You can choose accommodation in a classic dormitory or in a private room. The price of the Dolomites self guided hiking tours at MONT Trekking includes breakfast and dinner.

Also, our hiking tours include hotel accommodation for the nights before and after the hike. Knowing the base camp locations well, we select good hotels, preferably run by families.
